Architectural rendering Services: Check out the tools used in their execution

For the effective execution of architectural rendering services, design and construction professionals have to make use of high-end tools and technology, which can assist them in providing high-quality photorealism in the drawings. Architectural rendering services are not only executed for the development of high quality architectural drawings but also for providing photorealistic look to 3D models.

The development of photorealistic drawings has been carried out for years now, but the tools used for creating them have been changed.  Prior to the arrival of 3D rendering and modeling solutions such as SketchUp and 3ds Max, design and construction professionals were forced to develop handmade drawings which used to be given realistic tough by applying colors to them.

But the application of computer technology for the design documentation of residential, commercial and industrial projects changed a lot of things in Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry. Today the application of software solutions is not only limited to the development of technical drawings and models but they are also optimized in the execution of 3D interior and exterior rendering services.

3D interior and exterior rendering services are very crucial for clients as they are used for gaining understanding about the interior and exterior parts of the building.  For developing such detailed images, design and construction professionals require accurate architectural drawings and high-end rendering as well as modeling software. 3ds Max remains very important when rendering artists have to develop comprehensive architectural images which can give detailed information to potential buyers and building owners about the building design in most realistic way possible.

SketchUp is also used by rendering artists but it is believed that 3ds Max has better rendering and modeling tools.

Architectural visualization services allow potential buyers to see the exact design of the building

Architectural visualization services can be divided into various services such as architectural rendering services, architectural walkthrough services and architectural flythrough services and all of them are equally important for clients. Architectural rendering services (3D interior and 3D exterior rendering services) are performed by the staff of a services providing company for creating life-like architectural images for interior and exterior parts or section of the buildings.

Interior rendering services are executed with the support of 3D rendering software 3ds Max and SketchUp etc for creating top-tier architectural images for the proposed residential and commercial building projects. Both interior and exterior rendering services are indispensable for clients as the images produced through them contain extensive details about architectural design.

Nothing can provide better clarity or understanding on architectural design to clients than photorealistic images and architectural animation.

For developing life-like images and architectural animation, rendering artists have to add all the mandatory materials, items and realistic effects in them. For example rendering artists sometime have to model important things such as human characters, trees and furniture etc for producing realistic effects in the images, architectural walkthrough and flythrough.

Apart from that, rendering artists also have to apply relevant or pertinent color, texture, lighting effects and shadow effects in the images to make them look realistic. These elements should be applied in accurate quantities and ratio. Their excessive or illogical application can devastate the images.

For example rendering artists have to know the art of how to match the color of the walls to the color of rest of the items placed in the room for example furniture, curtains and bed covers etc. According to current interior designing trends, it is better that different shades of a same color are used for walls, curtains and bed cover etc.

So if material, texture and color etc are applied logically, realistic architectural images can be generated easily.

Which is the most appropriate tool for developing parametric models for building projects?

Over the years many 3D modeling software solutions have been introduced in Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry which are extensively used for developing architectural, structural and MEP models such as AutoCAD and ArchiCAD etc.  All these software solutions are developed and launched by Autodesk which is a pioneer software manufacturing company based in United States.

Autodesk has not only developed 3D modeling software solutions but has also created many 3D project review applications such as Navisworks. The models created in AutoCAD and ArchiCAD can be easily reviewed and checked for inconsistencies and errors in Navisworks.

But the concept of 3D parametric modeling was only introduced with the advent and emergence of building design software Revit. Before that we did have the ability to develop 3D models but not 3D parametric models. Parametric models, created with the assistance of Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP are much more imperative and beneficial for building stakeholders.

When parametric models for architecture, structure and MPE are developed in Revit, they are created with the close assistance of all the vital team members. Worksharing, is one of the most unconventional and unique feature of Revit, which facilitates the communication of design information throughout design phase. It a feature which provides modelers with a unique ability of sharing a model which contains all the design elements in it for enhancing their knowledge about design updates.

In worksharing feature, Building Information Modelers, take the assistance of a central model which becomes accessible to all the members as it is saved in a shared location. All kinds of design changes and modifications are updated in it by modelers, which can be viewed everyone in the group. Though modelers work independently in their personal computers, but they can always approach central model for understanding latest design changes. In this way, exceptionally brilliant parametric models are developed in Revit.

Is it convenient to develop families in Revit family editor?

Well, according to me family creation process is not that easy and convenient until and unless the building components are created by highly experienced and proficient Revit technicians. The complications in the process depend upon the kind of component which is created by Revit users.  If in case Revit users want to quickly develop standard loadable component or an in-place component, they can easily do so by identifying a relevant family which can be easily edited by them.  That means new loadable and in-place components can also be developed by editing existing families which are relevant to the component which users want to create.

Revit users are required to properly plan the loadable and in-place components before starting the family creation process in Revit family editor. Once proper planning is done by Revit users they can switch to family editor for developing standard component family or in-place family.

When Revit users start planning the family, they try to identify whether the family requires a host or not.  If in case the family which Revit users are trying to create needs a host then it is very significant for them to select a host-based family template for developing the family.

So the first thing which is done by Revit users while developing a loadable or in-place family is to select a family template. With the support of this template, Revit users are required to create a new family file.

After that it is important that Revit users create sub –categories for the family in question. Sub-categories are created for having a better control over the visibility of family geometry.  After that it is necessary for users to create a framework for the family. When family framework is created, users are required to develop family geometry. This is followed by adding dimensions to the family which kinds of completes the process.

What sort of information is incorporated in 3D floor plans?

Floor plans are exceptionally important for architects as well as for other construction professionals due to their highly informative nature. Prior to the availability of high end modeling software, 2D floor plans used to serve the entire purpose of providing information concerning a floor to AEC professionals. That means prior to the concept and development of 3D floor plans, design and construction professionals used to prepare 2D floor plans which used to incorporate all the indispensable floor information in it. But when it comes to visualizing a floor’s design by common people 2D floor plans are of little help since they are more technical in nature as a lot of architectural signs and symbols are incorporated in them. And they do not make much sense to common people as everybody cannot be well versed with such signs and symbols.

On the other hand 3D floor plans have gone far ahead in tackling all these visualization related issues. A 3D floor plan delineates all the information clearly to AEC professionals as it is portrayed in 3D view in it.  3D floor plans outline the location and placements of important architectural elements of a floor. That means it distinctly shows the placement of multifarious rooms, doors, windows, stairs and open space like balcony etc to design and construction professionals. An unexpected understanding is gained by clients as well as design and construction professionals about a building floor.

Now days 3D rendered floor plans are also gaining huge prominence among AEC professionals as they are very helpful for effectively conveying a floor’s design to potential customers or buyers. Floor plans are rendered by the proficient and creative rendering artists of a service providing company. Rendering software is utilized by professionals rendering artists for creating necessary material for the interior parts of a floor. Different rooms are portrayed with pertinent furniture in them such as bed room is decorated with stunning double bed and elegant side tables. Dining space is again portrayed with relevant dining room furniture such as dining table and utensils etc.

This is how the entire design of a floor is clearly portrayed through 3D floor plans.
